with an Excimer Laser, eye doctors perform:
PRK = PhotoRefractive Keratectomy
LASIK = Laser Assisted in situ Keratomileusis

in focus vision
PRK
Began in Europe in the late '80s
  • painless, your eye is numbed with anesthetic drops
  • performed with the Excimer laser alone directly on the cornea
  • removes a layer as thin as a human hair from the cornea
is suitable for:

Quick and simple procedure. Temporary removal of the outer layer of the cornea may cause discomfort

LASIK
The concept goes back to 1990. It became automated around 1995.
  • painless, your eye is numbed with anesthetic drops
  • a two-step procedure involving the Excimer Laser and the automated microkeratome
The aim is to create a flap so the Excimer laser acts on the corneal bed.

    Suitable for:
    • nearsightedness ranging between -4 and -15 diopters
    • pour agir en profondeur et ne pas cicatriser en surface
    • farsightedness up to +6 diopters

A longer and more complex procedure for the ophthalmologist but more comfortable for the patient.
